Social media in 2024 is evolving, with new tools and audience preferences shifting. Staying on top of the trends is essential to having a strong social media presence in 2024. Here are my top three trends to keep your eye on.
AI Use in 2024
AI is here to stay. Think of it as a tool that will help reduce your workload. Let it do the mundane jobs or those that take the most time BUT don’t let it take over.
Authenticity is even more important than before and with the increased awareness of AI as a tool it is even more important to ensure your content remains authentic and true to you brand.
It’s not necessarily about who (or what) creates your content anymore; it’s about the brand experience your content creates for the customer.
Does it feel right? Does it reinforce your brand?
Does it work? Get those right and you won’t have people questioning where the content originated from.

Platform Preferences in 2024
Platform Preferences are changing. Previously brands have had a presence on most of the platforms but that is changing. For many years I have advised clients to prioritise platforms and spent 60-70% of their time on one platform and do it well and split the remaining time on 1 or 2 of the others.
Don’t try and be all things to all people, especially if your brand appeals to a niche audience. So now in 2024 the focus is more around return on investment – which platforms provide the best return and are the most predictable. My top 3 are LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook. What are yours?

What’s the biggest social media turnoff? Content that is too sales focused.
The main reason we use social media is to stay connected to friends and family, after that we look to it for entertainment. With this in mind it makes sense that a brand’s content needs to entertain it’s audience, not preach to them, not constantly sell and certainly not make them feel stupid.
That said social media is a key sales tool but for it work well your strategy should be built on relationships, not transactions. And relationships are built by sharing something meaningful together.

- When planning your content give your audience what they want. If you don’t know ask them.
- When you change your approach don’t expect miracles overnight, it takes time to filter through. Consistency is key.
- A good social media campaign will build relationships with your audience but don’t let it stop on the platform, is the relationship reaching the rest of your organisation. Can you connect a certain post or campaign with increased page clicks or even purchases.
- Finally all brands need to sell but don’t make it “icky” or a hard sell keep it real and authentic.
