Holidays Over, Kids Back: Your September Social Media Reset
The uniforms are ironed (well, ish), the lunchboxes are packed, the uni kit has been packed into the car, and the house has gone suspiciously quiet. September’s here and with it, the return of something precious: routine.
If your social media went a bit quiet over the summer, you’re in very good company. Maybe you were away. Maybe you were juggling kids, clients and a paddling pool. Maybe you just needed a break, who cares why, sometimes you just need to step away… I did!
The good thing is that your audience hasn’t gone anywhere. They’re settling back into their routines too, scrolling on the school run, catching up on their commute, planning what the autumn looks like for them. Which makes right now the perfect time to show up again.
So, before you dive headfirst into posting, take an hour this week for a quick social media reset. Here’s where I’d start.
1. Give your social media bio a once-over

When did you last actually read your Instagram or LinkedIn bio? If it still mentions a summer offer, an old job title, or a service you’ve quietly retired, it’s time for a refresh. Your bio is your shop window so make sure it says what you do now, who you help, and why they should stick around.
2. Check the links on your profiles
Click every single link on your profiles. Yes, all of them. Broken links are one of the quickest ways to lose a warm lead. If someone taps through, ready to book or buy, and hits a dead end they will leave. Check your link-in-bio, your website button, your booking page. Two minutes of clicking could save you a lost enquiry.
3. Repost your best performing content

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel this month. Scroll back through your insights and find the posts that did the business; you know the ones with the saves, the shares, the “this is so me” comments. Repost them, refresh them, or reshape them into something new. Most of your audience never saw them the first time. Let your greatest hits do some heavy lifting.
4. Review your social media plan for the month ahead
Now the fun bit. What’s coming up for your business between now and half term? New offers, events, seasonal shifts, client wins you can shout about? Map it out. Even a rough plan beats posting on the fly and it means you’re never staring at a blank screen at 8pm wondering what on earth to say. (I think we’ve all been there!)
And a word about the naysayers…
Social media has felt a bit spiky lately, hasn’t it? More negativity, less discussion, more people with strong opinions about everything.
Here’s my advice: let them be them.
For every keyboard critic, there are far more people who genuinely love what you post, the quiet ones who save your tips, share your Reels with a friend, and eventually become your customers. They’re the ones who matter. Focus your energy there, and let the rest scroll on by.
